How we bring your book to life
At Radiant Bookcraft, we have refined a clear, repeatable process that takes the guesswork out of professional book production. Whether you are publishing your first novel or your tenth business guide, you will always know exactly where your project stands and what comes next. Our six-step workflow covers everything from initial consultation to post-launch support, and every stage includes built-in checkpoints where you review, approve, and steer the direction of your book.
We designed this process to be flexible enough to accommodate different genres, budgets, and timelines while maintaining the rigorous quality standards our authors expect. Below, we walk you through each phase in detail so you can see precisely how your manuscript becomes a finished, market-ready book.
The six steps to a polished book
Discovery call and manuscript assessment
Everything begins with a conversation. During a complimentary 30-minute discovery call, we learn about your book, your goals, and your timeline. If you have a completed manuscript, we perform a sample assessment of the first three chapters (approximately 10,000 words) and provide written feedback on structure, voice, pacing, and market positioning. This assessment helps us recommend the right combination of services and gives you a realistic estimate of the investment involved. There is no obligation to proceed — many authors find the sample assessment alone to be immensely valuable.
Project proposal and onboarding
Once you decide to move forward, we prepare a detailed project proposal outlining scope, timeline, deliverables, and pricing. After you sign off, we assign your dedicated project manager — your single point of contact throughout the engagement. During onboarding, we set up a shared project portal where you can track milestones, upload files, leave comments, and communicate directly with your editorial and design team. We also schedule key review dates so your calendar stays clear.
Developmental editing
Our developmental editor dives deep into your manuscript. For fiction, we examine plot architecture, character arcs, dialogue authenticity, scene pacing, and thematic coherence. For non-fiction, we focus on argument structure, evidence quality, reader engagement, and chapter flow. You receive a comprehensive editorial letter (typically 8–15 pages) plus detailed in-line annotations. We then schedule a video debrief to discuss the feedback and answer your questions before you begin revising. Most authors complete one round of developmental edits, though a second pass is available if needed.
Copy editing and proofreading
After you have revised your manuscript based on developmental feedback, our copy editor steps in. This line-by-line pass addresses grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, word choice, consistency of style (including handling of numbers, dates, and proper nouns), and adherence to the chosen style guide. We use tracked changes so you can accept, reject, or query every edit. Once you approve the copy-edited manuscript, a separate proofreader performs a final cold read to catch any remaining errors — typos, formatting glitches, or inconsistencies introduced during revision.
Design and production
With a clean, polished manuscript in hand, our design team gets to work. Cover design begins with a creative brief that captures your vision, genre conventions, and target audience. We present three initial cover concepts and refine your preferred direction through two rounds of revisions. Simultaneously, our interior designer lays out your book — selecting typefaces, setting margins, designing chapter openers, and placing any images or illustrations. You receive a print-ready PDF proof and, if applicable, an ePub and Kindle file for digital distribution. We conduct device-level quality assurance testing on all digital formats.
Publishing and launch support
The final step is getting your book into readers' hands. We assist with ISBN registration, Library and Archives Canada cataloguing, metadata optimisation for Amazon, Kobo, and IngramSpark, and distributor setup. If you are pursuing traditional publishing, we help you prepare a polished query package — synopsis, pitch letter, and sample chapters formatted to agent specifications. For self-publishing authors, we coordinate print-on-demand setup and manage your first print run. Post-launch, we offer optional marketing support including press releases, social-media campaigns, and book-launch event planning.
Typical timelines
We understand that every book project has its own rhythm. A straightforward 60,000-word novel typically moves through our full process in 12 to 16 weeks, while a complex non-fiction title with illustrations and footnotes may require 20 to 24 weeks. Rush timelines are available for an additional fee — we have delivered publication-ready files in as few as six weeks when schedules demand it.
Your project manager provides weekly status updates and flags any potential delays early, so you are never left wondering. We build buffer time into every schedule to accommodate the natural back-and-forth of creative collaboration without sacrificing quality or pushing deadlines.
Transparent communication is at the heart of our process. If you need to pause your project for personal reasons, we accommodate that too — life happens, and your book will be waiting when you are ready.
